Jump Start Jan 2025 Week 2 progress

Jump Start Janaury 2025 my Week 2 progress in Cleaning & Organising

Week Two of Jump Start January 2025 was Cleaning & Organising Week, so let’s check in with ourselves and evaluate how it all went. What worked, and what didn’t?

Here’s the list of daily activities to remind ourselves:

  • Day 8: Scarves, hats & gloves
  • Day 9: Breakfast bar
  • Day 10: Bathroom shelf
  • Day 11: (Saturday) Home ‘office’ tidy
  • Day 12: (Sunday) Brush up your brushes
  • Day 13: Windows & mirrors
  • Day 14: Linen store check

My ‘Organising & Cleaning’ Week progress

Here’s how it went here in Week 2 of Jump Start January 2025:

Day 1: I put a couple of scarves in a delicates bag and threw it in with the rest of a low-temperature wash. It’s been nice to have some extra neck-warming options during the colder days.

Day 2: Thursday was grocery shopping day, and I washed out a cereal container and filled it with fresh breakfast cereal. It’s now within easy reach on the counter next to the fridge, so we can grab the milk at the same time.

Day 3: I overshot here, and cleaned out the entire cupboard. Hey, I was on a roll after work, don’t know what else to tell you. Anyway, it’s good and tidy, and the out of date stuff has been safely disposed of or recycled.

Day 4: (Saturday) I was busy on Saturday so the office tidying task got bumped to the Sunday. It went well, I got 10 things out of the office that didn’t belong there, including exercise equipment and old packaging.

Day 5: (Sunday) The brush I brushed up was my Manta hairbrush, which was hair-free but occasionally needs a wash to prevent styling product build up. I washed it in the shower with gentle shampoo, then used it for a scalp massage while I washed my hair. Bonus.

Day 6: This was Windows and Mirrors Day, and I did a quick whip round the living room. There was a line of soot going up the mirror over the mantelpiece after burning candles at the weekend, so it was good to get that mess cleaned off.

Day 7: The linen store check was easy enough, and I ended up donating a few clean tea towels to the charity shop afterwards. We’d already done a fairly brutal declutter here last year so there wasn’t too much to do.

Jump Start January 2025 Week 2 progress report

What I want to take forward from Week 2

  • Wardrobe maintenance – makes getting ready in the morning so much easier, and means things actually get used instead of sitting in the laundry basket.
  • Bathroom cabinet cleaning – bye bye out of date cold medicines and things that have been open for far too long.
  • Brush cleaning – got a free scalp massage out of that one. Nice.

I’ve come to the firm conclusion that while I love having a clean and organised home, I don’t particularly like the act of cleaning and tidying itself.

Anything I can do to cheer up those chores, such as playing music or promising myself a little treat afterwards, works for me. Making a game out of it or setting a timer is helpful too.
