Jump Start Jan 2025 Week 1 progress

Self Care Week JSJan week 1 roundup

It’s time to take a moment to pause and reflect after trying out the activities for the Jump Start January ‘simple self care’ week. I always like to look at the Week 1 progress, to see what worked and maybe what didn’t.

Glad to say that I’m generally feeling good, in spite of the grey weather and the cold. It went well.

Here’s the list of daily activities to remind ourselves:

  • Day 1: Take a deep breath
  • Day 2: Daylight hours
  • Day 3: Fruit and vegetables
  • Day 4: (Saturday) Fitness time
  • Day 5: (Sunday) Hands and feet
  • Day 6: Scrub up nicely
  • Day 7: Have an early night

My ‘Simple Self Care Week’ progress

Here’s how I got on in Week 1 of Jump Start January 2025:

Day 1: I remembered to check in with myself and take a few deeper breaths on four occasions throughout the day. It was more relaxing than I thought it’d be. Maybe I should try setting alerts on my phone.

Day 2: Brisk walking was free, weather permitting, and getting some daylight in the middle of the day was the best.

Day 3: I made sure I got my 5-a-day, which was very welcome after the delicious Christmas stodge. Lighter and brighter.

Day 4: A walk in the wintery sunshine, and some cycling kept me busy. Exercise helps so much at this time of year. Anything you can manage is good, however small.

Day 5: I regularly forget to use hand cream and foot cream, so the extra pampering made a big difference.

Day 6: A quick shower scrub with a wash mitt really woke me up on a Monday morning. I felt glowy and zing-y for hours afterwards.

Day 7: I went to bed earlier than usual to read and relax, and even though I didn’t fall asleep any faster it was still good to make the effort to unwind.

What I want to take forward from Week 1

  • Exercise. Daylight. Healthy eating. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this stuff actually works.
  • A wake-up shower, especially on a Monday.
  • A little pampering in front of the telly on a Sunday night.
  • Winding down properly in the evenings.

There was nothing I tried that I didn’t like, but the list above includes the favourites. Everyone’s has their own preferences though, and you might have had a very different experience.
