Best value supermarket prosecco & other sparkling wines in 2024

If you’re looking for award winning prosecco, cava, crémant and other sparkling wine at great prices, you’ve come to the right place. Here’s the 2024 guide to the best value supermarket prosecco and other fizz.
The good news is that this category has won the supermarkets more medals and Great Value Awards than last year, so there’s more to choose from right now and the quality’s gone up. (Their champagne did better in 2023 – I’ve written about this year’s champagne offerings here).
As in previous years, my annual guide to the best prosecco, cava and other sparkling wine is a combination of the drinks that’ve won international and UK-based awards and the ones I’ve been able to slurp, sample and evaluate for myself at retailer wine tastings and other PR events.
To be included in this article the fizz needs to both taste great and be a sensible price. Fortunately some of the top scoring wines in 2024 also have surprisingly low price tags, and it’s a joy to share them with you. Look out for the usual PG’s tips, tasting notes and food pairing suggestions too.
I’ll also be updating this article regularly with interesting offers of the week as we head into the festive period. We all love a good discount or multi-buy here, don’t we? Of course we do.
BEST CHEAP SUPERMARKET PROSECCO 2024
Prosecco is the most popular type of affordable sparkling wine in the UK, so let’s look at this year’s award winning bottles first, with an eye on value for money. As you can see, there are some brilliant ones for under £10 and the seasonal offers have already started.
Last year’s harvest was affected by bad weather, but there were still some good quality grapes – and the supermarkets have won several more medals for their Italian fizz this year than they did in 2023. The top 2024 supermarket proseccos also scored higher points in international competitions than last year, so although some prices have increased you’re still in for a treat.
So, it’s on with the award-winning prosecco show. Cheers m’dears, and let’s start with the top pick.

BEST VALUE SUPERMARKET CAVA
There are plenty of other great value sparkling wines apart from prosecco and crémant this year. In particular, there are some excellent cavas, and an English supermarket fizz has won multiple awards.
I’m a big fan of cava as it goes so well with food, including party nibbles and many other dishes, and I often prefer the richer, less sweet flavour of it.

BEST CHEAP SUPERMARKET CREMANT 2024
Crémant’s created in the same way as champagne, by undergoing a secondary fermentation in the bottle. The result is a very champagne-like sparkling wine at a much lower price, with hints of the local terroir. It’s always worth a look to see what’s new on the market this year.
The flavours are generally stronger and less sweet than prosecco, often with moreish biscuity or toasty notes, and according to the experts a good crémant can easily taste better than a not-great champagne.
There are some fantastic crémants to try this year – most around the £11 mark – and here are the top picks.
Aldi Specially Selected Crémant Du Jura (2020) | £10.99

- This 2020 vintage won the most points in the crémant category (but it’s £2 more than last year)

- Serving suggestions: cheese, seafood, party nibbles and appetisers.

- Serving suggestions: smoked salmon canapés or strawberry pavlova
