Re-use & Recycle Tenner Week schedule & stocktake

Re-use & Recycle Tenner Week Challenge Jump Start January 2025

The fourth week of every Jump Start Challenge is also a Tenner Week budgeting challenge. Welcome to Re-use & Recycle Tenner Week – here’s a quick schedule of daily activities, and an optional Sunday Stocktake exercise.

We’ve had to update the budget for Tenner Week because of inflation and the cost of living crisis, and you can choose one of two options: an all-in budget of £25 for everything you spend during the week, or £10 ‘pocket money’ to spend on whatever you like plus generally trying to keep outgoings as low as possible.

As usual, the budget does not include must-buy items such as medications, anything you need to spend on kids / pets / partner, any travel to and from work, and stuff you’ve already paid for (such as a concert ticket you bought months ago).

Let’s look at the schedule!

Schedule for Re-Use & Recycle Week

As always, there’s something new to try every day, to honour the theme and keep it interesting. Here are the daily tasks:

  • Sunday Stocktake – optional but highly recommended
  • Monday: Tackling food waste
  • Tuesday: Fix something day
  • Wednesday: Easy reach recycling
  • Thursday: Rent, borrow, lend
  • Friday: Repurpose something
  • Saturday: Tackling clothing waste
  • Sunday: Get it out of the house!

You the full details of all the daily activities are in the next article, which is right here. There’s a separate ‘pause and reflect’ exercise afterwards to help you get even more out of the challenge.

The Sunday Stocktake (optional)

The optional Sunday Stocktake is an opportunity to go around your home and look at everything you already have. I find this very helpful before a budgeting challenge because it can remind you of many things you’d forgotten, and it’s usually quite reassuring.

Start by looking at your food and drink, for example:

  • Fridge and freezer contents
  • Items in cupboards
  • Bread bin, biscuit box
  • Spice rack
  • Baking box
  • etc

Now think about what you own that’d be useful for this week’s Re-use & Recycle theme:

  • Sewing kit
  • Toolbox, nails
  • Bicycle repair kit
  • Glue, repair filler
  • Upcycling gear
  • Craft materials
  • Guides, manuals, leaflets
  • Apps and websites
  • Deep clean materials
  • etc

You may also like to think about general things that you already own, such as gift vouchers, loyalty points, pre-bought tickets, pre-paid memberships, ways to keep yourself fit or entertained, and so on.
