Four things I love this month: September 2024

In the last few weeks I’ve come across a few things that are new in the shops, and one or two others that are just new to me, so here are some product reviews for September 2024. It’s all about enjoying the little moments, and finding those affordable treats that represent good value.
This time around we have some reusables, seasonal items that’re refreshingly not made out of plastic, beauty treats and an investment piece for your capsule wardrobe.

BeautyBay The Facial Cleansing Pads | RRP £11.00 (currently £8.75)
These own-brand ‘face halos’ are soft padded black ovals for gently cleansing your skin. Good for removing sunscreen and makeup, and a nice shape to reach delicate skin around the eyes and nose. You can also use them without a cleanser, although I prefer to use a jelly cleanser with them for a really good wash.
They’re efficient, easy to clean, can be reused multiple times, and come in their own washbag as a pack of three. Even better, they often turn up with discounts or multi-buy offers, so can usually be found for under a tenner.

George at ASDA Jack Skellington plate | £8.00
It’s nearly time for spooky season, and this Jack Skellington skull platter is great for getting in the Halloween mood. Nice quality, 25cm diameter, and suitable as a party serving plate or as a dinner plate. It’s proper glazed earthernware too, microwave safe and not made out of plastic (hurrah).
It’s fun for parties, and hardcore fans of Tim Burton & Co can use these throughout Christmas as well. There’s also a Sally Nightmare Before Christmas character plate here if you’re more in the mood for blue and red.

Monday Haircare Volume Shampoo | £5.00 for 350ml, £10.00 for 800ml
Okay, I admit that I was put off by the pastel packaging and the teen models this company uses in its advertising, thinking it was aimed at tween kids. I was wrong, it’s a nice salon quality shampoo and grownups can use it too! All their products are sulfate and paraben free, as well as cruelty free, in fully recyclable packaging, and sensibly priced.
I tried their volume shampoo to give my medium-thickness late summer hair a bit more oomph, and it’s done what it promised to do on the bottle (how often can you really say that?) There’s a light gardenia scent to all their shampoos and conditioners, but it’s not overpowering. This one’s won a Cosmopolitan Holy Grail award too.

M&S reversible leather jeans belt | £29.50
A simple black belt and a versatile brown belt are handy capsule wardrobe staples that should last you for many years, but leather belts can be expensive. This M&S reversible leather belt gives you the best of both worlds in one item, and it also saves on space and clutter.
It’s 25mm wide, so not the widest jeans belt available, but it would work well with other trousers and dresses as well as denim. The buckle is silver tone and rounded, managing to be contemporary and also classic. Available in sizes XS to Large.
